Acorn: Attack of the Squirrels
Price: Free / $2.99
Acorn: Attack of the Squirrels is a VR party game for the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, or Oculus Quest. The companion app is available for Android and iOS, though, so multiplayer mode requires those platforms. Here’s how this game works. The VR player takes on the role of a large tree besieged by squirrels. The other players play as the squirrels on their phones and try to stay attached to the tree. There are four playable squirrels, each with their own abilities and quirks. It is shockingly good for a party game even if the barrier to entry is a little higher than most mobile party games.

Among Us
Price: Free / Up to $2.99
Among Us is a more traditional party game. It lets you play with between five and ten players locally so there is plenty of space for people to play. Players use their own devices and connect over local WiFi so a WiFi connection is required. Other than that, connecting with other players is pretty easy. The game ends when you discover the imposter and vote them off of the ship. You find out who the imposter is by playing the game and seeing who is intentionally screwing things up.
Crossy Road
Price: Free to play
Crossy Road is a family-friendly runner with a variety of multiplayer modes. Players progress forward and avoid things like water, traffic, and other obstacles. The point is to make it as far as possible without being crushed or falling into the water. Everyone needs their own device for the local multiplayer mode. However, other than that, it’s a fun and goofy little game. It is a free to play game. However, most of the in-app purchases are for character skins that don’t affect actual game play.
Exploding Kittens
Price: $1.99 with in-app purchases
Exploding Kittens is another party game with cards. This one is a little easier to play. Players draw cards until the Exploding Kitten card shows up. The players must then deal with that. Last person standing wins. This has both a physical and digital copy. Both make great party games. It supports up to five players. You can also purchase optional DLC for more cards. It’s not necessarily kid friendly, but it’s definitely not something for mature audiences only like Evil Apples.
The Jackbox Party Pack (six games)
Play Beer Pong Online Game
Price: $24.99 each
The Jackbox Party Pack is a series of mini-games made specifically for parties. Most of them are some form of quiz game with whacky and goofy answers to whacky and goofy questions. However, the games are presented in such a way to make them feel different. The first Party Pack includes the classic You Don’t Know Jack trivia game and the rest have some other stuff as well. They are rather expensive and clock in at over $100 for the full series, but you can skate by with just one or two.

NBA Jam
Price: $4.99
NBA Jam is one of the best sports arcade games out there. It’s also one of the better party games. Players compete in two-on-two basketball. The rules are relatively relaxed with short games, local multiplayer options, and Android TV support. It’s not great for a large crowd playing all at once. However, it’s not difficult to set up a small tournament with people taking turns. It’s a bit of a stretch. We just really like this game and all the various types of local multiplayer that it supports.
Spaceteam
Price: Free / Up to $3.99
Spaceteam is a mobile game version of hot potato with some Simon Says elements. The game has up to eight simultaneous players. Each player has the same game on screen. They must respond to the game’s demands as a group. Failure to do so ends the game. It’s playable on both Android and iOS. Sea battle game pigeon cheat. Thus, the platform wars don’t apply to this game. It’s a bunch of fun, especially after a few drinks.
Would You Rather?
Price: Free / $4.99
Would You Rather? is a mobile spin on a classic party game. Players get a scenario and must choose between two of them. For instance, once scenario asks if you’d rather be an ugly genius or a gorgeous moron. The game has well over a dozen categories spanning food, love, life, funny stuff, and other general silliness. There are a bunch of other similar games on Google Play so you can find other variants if this one doesn’t do it for you. However, we like this one because it has a single price versus some weird in-app purchase strategy.
Drinking games
Price: Free / Varies
Drinking games are obviously for adult parties, but they still count as party games. You may be familiar with some drinking games, like Kings, Never Have I Ever, and some others. There are mobile variants of some of these games. For instance, we have iPuke linked at the button below. It is a mash-up of drinking genres, including some Truth or Dare stuff, Never Have I Ever stuff, and other such things. We also have an article for drinking games on Android here if you’re interested.
Board games
Price: Free / Varies
Board games are another great party game if your party is smaller. There are actually a surprisingly healthy number of board game variants on mobile. We have Galaxy Trucker linked at the button below. That one has players building ships and fighting off bad guys. Most board games have some sort of local multiplayer with a varying number of players allowed. Again, we have a list of excellent board games here if you want to see more options.
